Grandma's notes from today's clusterings!

This entry is from Grandma Welch's (Mary Lou) view...so I've cut and pasted from her email to me....



Mom went with Sinthya to the 3:00 pm clustering. Sophie now weighs 6 lbs. 14.5 oz. (she's down from birth weight of 7.4 - this is normal for new babies!) She has been quiet today according to nurse Sandy. We were able to change a poopy diaper (way to go Sophie!). We want more of them. The tube has been removed from her throat, and now is in the nose. She was fed 13 cc. of breast milk into the tube. Sophie's IV has been removed from her head and now is in her foot. Sophie's oxygen level never went below 80 which is great. She is breathing better on her own and not holding her breath.


Dr. Mohan, the neonatalogist, checked her out while we were there and said that the Occupational Therapist, Cindy will be assessing Sophie on Monday. She will decide what can be done on the wrists. We are hoping for some more news on Monday regarding her wrists!


Dr. Mohan set up guidelines for things that have to happen before Sophie can come home. (the first indication of "HOME")

1. Sophie needs to be moved from the infant warming bed to an open crib.

2. Sophie needs to be keeping up her own body temperature.

3. Sophie needs to gain weight, and be consistent.

4. Sophie needs to be free of IV's.

5. Sophie needs to eating on her own and not through a tube.

6. Sophie needs to be able to be breastfed and also take a bottle.

7. Sophie needs to be able to eat every 3 hours.

8. Sophie needs to be waking up and eating every 3 hours.


We are looking forward to Sophie accomplishing these, so we can get her home.
